Mouse & the clock
Written By Ayaan Ranjith
One day in a land.
It may seem slightly magical to you…
lived butterflies that were so big that it could blow down houses…
Rabbits with huge ears and sharp teeth that could tear anything, and tornadoes that could turn a planet around.
But there were also other creatures.
Not so very big.
Like the rats, worms, goats, and of course mouse.
Above them all, the tornadoes ruled the land under strict law and order.
But there was something fishy about the tornadoes,
No…no…it wasn’t because they swallowed a lot of fish,
but because …
THEY HAD A SECRET
And the secret was hidden from the rest.
This land had a chamber, and nobody was allowed to go anywhere near it.
Shh…now if you are a mouse, you are in big trouble in this land.
Because, all of the mice were trapped away in a tiny piece of island, not allowed to cross their land’s large wall of boundaries.
Even though the mice lived happily in their tiny island, they always wondered.
What are the tornadoes hiding from us, and what issues do they have with a mouse?
One day,
One mouse,
the bravest one of them all, wanted to know what was beyond those walls.
So, he climbed it all, like a mouse on a run.
Swam across the big water like a ferocious tiger and ENTERED the land where the tornadoes lived.
The mouse managed to snuck himself into the forbidden chamber.
It looked fabulous!
Everything was made out of gold and there was no sign of filth.
The mouse nearly shouted
‘This is so awesome’
Then he thought that it’s better he keep quiet, else the tornadoes might hear him.
He decided that he needs to learn what exactly this place was, and also that he should come up with a plan to what his next move should be. ‘How about visiting the tornadoes’ school. School is a good place to start’, he chuckled.
So, he moved slowly, trying to locate where the school is and then sneaked into one of the classes.
The mouse listened carefully.
It was the tornado history, and he wasn’t interested.
So, the mouse walked away.
As he began to move away, something got his attention.
It was the story about the great tornado who had made a secret weapon in the past.
So, the mouse sat there and listened.
“Before the great tornado died, he created the biggest swirl.
And that swirl created the world. That is why he is known as the great tornado”
He also created a marvelous box with a key to unlock its power.
Behold the key.
It looked exactly like the shape of a mouse.
We believe that it is possible that a mouse could go inside this magic box and grab all the powers.
Therefore, we must make sure that no mouse ever enter this part of our land.
On being revealed to this extraordinary mystery of the history, the brave mouse walked away in astonishment and tried to look were this secret box was.
He decided to go back into the golden chamber.
To his amusement he discovered a door that looked like an entrance to a party.
He gently opened it and looked inside.
It was all dark and he couldn’t see much, but he heard something.
Tick-tock,
Tick-tock-tick
It was so melodious to his ears.
And then it got annoying.
He followed the sound and it led to a clock.
His eyes got caught in an interesting little silhouette that looked just like him.
It was THE LOCK.
He could easily pass through it and unlock it. He was the key.
So, the mouse ran into it.
He banged onto something like a thick wall made out of thin air.
He was so mad that he shouted out
Really? After all that I went through to get till here, I can’t get past this?
The tornadoes heard some noise in the chamber, and they rushed in.
The mouse took a quick exit carrying the clock.
He realized that the clock weighed so less.
It could be because it was made out of thin air like the wall.
So, he was on the run with the clock and the tornadoes had closed all the exits.
They announced aloud and ferociously.
“Anyone who finds the thief who stole the clock, will be rewarded 60003 million dollars.”
And everyone started hunting for the thief with the clock.
Someone pulled the mouse to a quieter place and the mouse quickly looked behind and he saw a rat.
The mouse said: “You are a Rat”
The rat said “I am not a rat; I am a mouse rat”
“What is a mouse rat?”
The mouse rat said that, the mouse rat is a mouse that looks like a rat and the mouse rat kept on talking.
He said it was the tornadoes who had done this to him.
“You are soon going to be turned into one mouse rat too.”
“I don’t want to turn into a mouse rat”
“ But you will be turned to into a mouse rat if they find you, so that you can no longer pass through the lock.”
The mouse rat noticed that the mouse had stolen the clock.
“Since you stole the clock you are the strongest mouse here.
Now I am going to tell you a secret, there’s an exit that they never lock”
Why?
“Because there is no lock.”
And the mouse rat led him to the secret exit, and he said to go to the island and to get on top of the tallest tree there.
The mouse escaped and spotted the tallest tree on the island and climbed on it.
The tallest tree started to shake and catapulted him far- far away.
Into a big tornado, and it was so big that it could create a world.
Then the mouse remembered something, and he thought
‘Is it possible that the great tornado is still alive?
Oh, the great tornado swallowed the mouse in, and he was put into the sea and was turned and tossed by a whirlpool and was brought back to land.
His first instinct was to search if the clock was around but soon realized he had lost it.
Feeling sad at loosing something that had contained great possibility, the mouse managed to pull himself up.
He saw a pit and he thought may be the clock is in it.
He jumped into the pit and spotted the clock without any delay.
He continued to walk in the pit with the clock.
He saw a cave and decided to see what mystery and adventure the cave possibly held.
Getting into that cave wasn’t as easy as he thought.
There, right before his eyes the cave stood up, strong and big like a mighty big hole of darkness and said
“You shall not pass”.
And the mouse just jumped over the cave and the cave ran behind him and said
“I can keep doing this the whole day”.
“Okay, what should I do to get past you?”
You see, I sit here the whole day and chase creatures and I am bored.
I need something interesting and new in my life.
The mouse showed him the clock and the wonderful tick tock sound of it.
The caved liked it.
The mouse threw it away and said “fetch”, and the cave ran behind it.
That was just a trick to escape from the cave.
The mouse had not actually thrown the clock away, he had just pretended to.
The clock was still safe with him.
He was alone with the clock, away in a land that he didn’t seem to know.
He entered the clock again and kept walking.
This time it was a long walk.
Was he walking in the light or in the dark, it didn’t seem to matter to him.
Was he outside or inside of something,
he didn’t seem to care.
The wall hadn’t bothered him. The silence didn’t overwhelm him.
He stopped, when he saw a note that read…
You have earned it.
Only the ones who overcome the great tornado, escape being a rat mouse and face the battles and struggles of life, can come this far to achieve the great power that this time holds. Now the power is in you.
Do whatever you may.
The mouse went back to create a better world.
He saved the rat mouse, opened up the land for all.
The tornadoes never troubled anyone anymore.
And the clock?
Well, let’s just say,
It’s there.
With someone.
